Κάτι δυσάρεστο περιμένει τα παιδιά μας κάθε καλοκαίρι. Ονομάζεται «καλοκαιρινή ολίσθηση» (summerslide), και περιγράφει τι ακριβώς συμβαίνει στο νεανικό μυαλό όταν μένει άπραγο για 3 ολόκληρους μήνες.Καθώς λοιπόν πλησιάζουν οι καλοκαιρινοί μήνες, πολλοί γονείς σκέφτονται τις οικογενειακές διακοπές, τα ταξίδια πως να απασχολήσουν τα παιδιά στο σπίτι, τις απότομες αλλαγές στο πρόγραμμα της οικογένειας και πως να τις αντιμετωπίσουν.

Αυτό που δεν δείχνει να τους απασχολεί και ιδιαίτερα, είναι το πόσο έδαφος χάνουν εκπαιδευτικά τα παιδιά τους κατά την διάρκεια αυτών των 3 μηνών. Αυτοί οι μήνες κάλλιστα θα μπορούσαν να διατεθούν πιο παραγωγικά για την διδασκαλία νέας ύλης ή την επανάληψη της περασμένης. Έρευνες υποστηρίζουν ότι τα παιδιά που διαβάζουν κατά την διάρκεια των καλοκαιρινών διακοπών κερδίζουν σε αναγνωστικές δεξιότητες, ενώ όσα δεν διαβάζουν χάνουν ακόμα και μέρος των αποκτηθέντων κατά την διάρκεια της σχολικής χρονιάς.

Ένα βήμα στην σωστή κατεύθυνση

Τόσο για να αποφευχθεί η καλοκαιρινή ολίσθηση, αλλά και για να επιτύχουμε καλύτερη επίδοση την επόμενη χρονιά, θα πρέπει να κατευθύνουμε τα παιδιά προς το καλοκαιρινό διάβασμα. Είναι απόλυτο φυσιολογικό τα παιδιά να θέλουν να κρύψουν τα βιβλία και να μην τα ξαναδούν παρά την προηγούμενη της ενάρξεως της νέας σχολικής χρονιάς. Θέλουν να κάνουν μπάνιο, να παίξουν, να βγουν έξω, να κάνουν ποδήλατο.. Και το να τα δεσμεύσουμε για να διαβάσουν λίγο καθημερινά αποτελεί αληθινό αγώνα.

Η έρευνα έχει αποδείξει ότι όταν οι γονείς εμπλέκονται ενεργά στην διαδικασία της μάθησης, τότε έχουμε πιο επιτυχημένα παιδιά εντός και εκτός σπιτιού. Θα πρέπει λοιπόν οι γονείς να πεισθούν για την σημασία του καλοκαιρινού διαβάσματος και να τονισθεί η διαφορά που μπορεί να επιτευχθεί με αυτό.

Το καλοκαίρι ανήκει στα παιδιά και οφείλει να είναι διασκεδαστικό, δημιουργικό και απολαυστικό. Για το λόγο αυτό πραγματοποιούμε ”θερινά σχολεία ικανοτήτων” με σκοπό τη διαπαιδαγώγηση και τη ψυχαγωγία τους. Το πρόγραμμα αφορά την ”Εκπαίδευση Ικανοτήτων”, στοχεύοντας τις ικανότητες που χρειάζεται να έχουν οι νέοι για να πετύχουν στον 21ο αιώνα.
